Short answer Nope!
No preschool and daycare are not the same. Daycare is a care program, that watches children during the day, while the parent or guardian is at work or school. Preschool is an early education program that is generally shorter in length, a couple of hours a day, or maybe half day and is focused on learning activities. Daycare tends to be available 5 days a week; and preschool is usually fewer days (although it can be 5 days too).
And yes some daycares are open longer hours, and even weekends.
Yes sometimes a preschool will also provide childcare, and yes sometimes a daycare will provide some preschool time - generally though that's added in for revenue.
Also both programs can be used to help "socialize" a child to learn to share and play with peers etc. And on occasion a preschool, and a daycare will partner together. Where a child will be most of the day or week at the daycare, but goes to the preschool for a couple of hours, two or three days a week for early education.
Until next time, take care of YOU!
