Helping your child build a love of books, and reading is a great way to help them succeed with their education. We know that the more kids read, the better they are at reading. And we know that the better kids are at reading, the better they do in school.
In fact through the end of the third grade, learning to read is fundamental. And by the fourth grade kids are now reading to learn. If that skill isn't there, they are falling behind, and many never catch up.
So as many of us are turning to our holiday gift lists, I encourage you to include books. Help your child or grandchild to build their own library of beloved books, and model the behavior by getting books for the adults too.
Many parents use the Want, Need, Wear, Read plan. The idea is that you only give four gifts to each child: Something they want, something they need, something to wear, and something to read. Books can last a lifetime, and are a gift that keeps on giving.
Until next time, take care of you!

Throughout the year, each semester, you will see a variety of books in the online classroom. Math, Science, and Reading are all covered with an excellent selection of Scholastic Books.
We choose to use Guided Reading System materials, at Over The Bay Pre-K. Guided reading levels means, books that are selected to challenge, but not overwhelm and frustrate. They are not "too easy" or "too hard" they are Just Right.
We also have options for the grownups to be able to buy the same books for their home libraries (if you want to) so your child can practice with the same books they see in the classroom.
And we will talk about it more in a later post, but there's also the Scholastic Book Club option, which is even more affordable and available through our exclusive school link.
Until next time, take care of you!
Do you remember Scholastic from when you went to school?
I do, I loved those paper flyers the teacher handed out. I would go over and over and over all of the choices, and I always wanted MANY of them. But I was allowed to choose one. That was a wonderful experience really choosing which one was going to be the best choice.
And I was building my own library, one book at a time, and supporting my classroom (but I don't really think I understood that part). I am so proud to say that all these years later that Scholastic Books are part of each semester at Over The Bay Pre-K.
We have books that we read each day, (and if you choose you can get those same books for your home library) and we also have a school code that you can use when you place your orders, and you will support our school to get more books.
And here's the other cool part, those flyers - yep they are digital now, and you can access them, and get access to books that are a lot cheaper. And yes, that still supports the school too. How fun is that?!
Until next time, take care of YOU!
