Helping your child build a love of books, and reading is a great way to help them succeed with their education. We know that the more kids read, the better they are at reading. And we know that the better kids are at reading, the better they do in school.
In fact through the end of the third grade, learning to read is fundamental. And by the fourth grade kids are now reading to learn. If that skill isn't there, they are falling behind, and many never catch up.
So as many of us are turning to our holiday gift lists, I encourage you to include books. Help your child or grandchild to build their own library of beloved books, and model the behavior by getting books for the adults too.
Many parents use the Want, Need, Wear, Read plan. The idea is that you only give four gifts to each child: Something they want, something they need, something to wear, and something to read. Books can last a lifetime, and are a gift that keeps on giving.
Until next time, take care of you!
