There are THREE main things that most kindergarten teachers want parents to know to prioritize when they are getting their kids ready for kinder. Most parents think ABC, or 123, or colors ... but no the next three days we are going to talk about the three things and the first is shoes.
It's important that your child can put on, and take off their own shoes, and tie them. Now today a lot of shoes come slip on, or velcro, and not with shoelaces to tie, but it's still a good skill to have, and it's a good fine motor skill activity.
That means your child can identify which shoe goes on which foot, and can do it on their own fully.
Also when you are looking at shoelaces, the pretty, the round, the bright, make sure they are functional first and foremost. Have you ever noticed that some of the rounder laces don't hold a good tie, unless you double knot them? If you are counting on knots, make sure your child can undo a knot and retie one too.
Here is a fun video, kid to kid, if you need some pointers for your child to follow, or for you to know how to explain it. Note the try each step more than once, master and move on. https://youtu.be/c79wsBqDW1A
Until next time, take care of you!
